چکیده

Building natural classifications for genera with complex morphological variations such as Centaurea needs the support of molecular analysis and knowledge character diversification. Here we use parsimony Bayesian analyses nuclear ribosomal ITS sequences to gain insight into sectional relationships evolution in sections Chartolepis, Cheirolepis, Cynaroides, Grosheimia, Microlophus, Paraphysis, Phaeopappus, Plumosipappus, Pseudoserida, Pseudophaeopappus, Ptheracantha, Ptosimopappus, Rhizocalathium, from Turkey. In particular, increase sampling Turkish endemic species sect. Cynaroides related taxa. The new 26 taxa 48 locations are given. Sequences 17 given here first time. phylogeny derived data provides a reasonably resolved supported phylogenetic framework genus. Our shows characters traditionally used taxonomy flower colour, appendage width, spine length, pappus length evolved several times independently show lot homoplasies. However, can confirm validity combinations reliable subgeneric classification Centaurea.

Morphological and molecular study on some species of Phoma and related taxa in Iran

The genus Phoma Sacc. consists of important fungal plant pathogenic species occurring on economically important cultivated crops in spite of many other saprobic species. Thus, the aim of this study was to identify 35 isolates of Phoma species and related taxa collected from different hosts by means of morphological and molecular characters. Multi-locus phylogenetic analyses based on ITS1-5.8S-I...

Taxonomic significance of achene morphology in the genus Centaurea L. (Asteraceae)

Achene morphology of 49 taxa of the genus Centaurea L. was studied in terms of 19 different characteristics. On the basis of the variation in these features, some sections, such as sect. Cyanus with hairy hilum, were separated. Despite various differences, C. leuzeoides and C. gilanica were categorized in the section Psephelloideae, a section with lots of character variations within its species...

Molecular phylogeny and morphological homoplasy in fruitbats.

The present study evaluates the evolutionary framework of the Old World fruitbats based on the cytochrome b and 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene sequences from a wide range of taxa. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that morphology-based subfamilies and most suprageneric groups are nonnatural assemblages. They also support the existence of an endemic African clade of fruitbats. The discrepancy between...

Surface flavonoids of Centaurea stenolepis and the local endemics Centaurea davidovii and C. parilica (Asteraceae, sect. Lepteranthus) from Bulgaria

The species of Asteraceae have been found to be a rich source of externally accumulated flavonoid aglycones. This type of compounds attracts the attention, besides for their importance as chemotaxonomic markers, also for their ecological role. In the present study, two local endemic species, Centaurea davidovii and C. parilica, and one widespread species from the same group, C. stenolepis, are ...

Extreme morphological and ecological homoplasy in tropical salamanders.

Fossorial salamanders typically have elongate and attenuated heads and bodies, diminutive limbs, hands and feet, and extremely elongate tails. Batrachoseps from California, Lineatriton from eastern México, and Oedipina from southern México to Ecuador, all members of the family Plethodontidae, tribe Bolitoglossini, resemble one another in external morphology, which has evolved independently. Whe...
